PSG is the winner of the UEFA Super Cup

Ukrainian football fans can no longer be surprised by the new season - some even got tired of the number of matches at the beginning of August. But the leading European countries are currently only involved in another campaign. And, of course, the match for the UEFA Super Cup between the current holders of the Champions League and Europa League trophies went nowhere. It just moved over time from the end of August to almost its middle. As you know, the French Paris Saint-Germain won the main club trophy of the Old World for the second time in a row last season. And Unai Emery with another team, this time with Birmingham Aston Villa, won the "Emery League" and actually the UEFA Cup, so everything was quite familiar. And so, this time in Salzburg, these two groups met. Obviously, the recent 2026 World Cup has had a significant impact on the team's training schedule. And especially if their players participated in the high stages of this tournament. So in the end, it could be stated that PSG and Aston Villa started everything for themselves with a clean slate, and at least the questions about the mediocre pace of the game fell away by themselves. "Lions" are also approaching the season with serious personnel changes, so there is almost a new team. The French champions wanted to take advantage of this at the beginning of the match and in the end they did. Luis Enrique's team was simply at a higher level in terms of the quality of work with the ball, and in the end, in a protracted attack in the 20th minute from the third approach, they did open the score in the meeting. Kvaratzhelia did it when he drilled a shot past the goalkeeper into the near top corner from the left wing of a free kick from Doue's pass, who a moment earlier was unable to beat Bizot on his own. But then something happened with PSG's dominance in this game, and Enrique's team risked being in very serious trouble because of it. Maggio, a 17-year-old giant of a boy at the forefront of Villa's attack, simply ran over his opponents on the way to goal, and if he had converted at least most of his chances, the English would have had a substantial lead by half-time. Because the Parisians simply did not create anything in response. Maggio finally found his goal before the break, having wasted both an exit almost face-to-face with the goalkeeper and several passes from McGinn. But John eventually found him at the far post on 45 minutes, and we saw Villa celebrate and quite the start to history for the second half. PSG regained control of the ball after the break, but Emery's team had the first goal-scoring opportunity in the second half of the game. McGinn made the keeper jump at the corners with his curling shot from the right wing of the free-kick. In response, the French tried to come up with something for a long time, but in the end they scored in the 61st minute from an episode that was initially considered to be an "offside" position. Dembele then headed Doué's free-kick to the right, which appeared to be offside, but in the end the replay showed Cash was wrongly positioned on the opposite side of the field, so the goal was awarded. Despite this setback, Villa created enough chances from then on to at least not lose the game. But in the end she lost. Because Emery's team did not score in their moments, no matter how close Gomez, Hemmings or Buendia came to it. The ball constantly flew either to the goalkeeper or very close to the goal. PSG, on the other hand, caught opponents on counterattacks, and although it also had its moments, the concentration over time in the first official game of the season still let Luis Enrique's team down. Somali referee Omar Artan's final whistle sealed France's Paris Saint-Germain victory in the UEFA Super Cup, while Birmingham's Aston Villa stopped short of the trophy.
