The former goalkeeper of the French national team, Fabien Barthez, received a position in the coaching staff of the national team. The 55-year-old specialist was appointed goalkeeper coach.
Barthez will work under the leadership of Zinedine Zidane, who recently led the French national team. The new staff also included David Bettoni, Hamidou Msaidi, Gregory Dupont, Stefan Plank, Farid Tabet and Clément Iber.
Barthez is one of the most decorated French goalkeepers in history. As part of the national team, he won the World Championship and the Euro. At the club level, the goalkeeper became the winner of the Champions League with Marseille, twice won the English championship with Manchester United and twice became the champion of France as part of Monaco.
Bartez ended his playing career in 2007. Since then, he has not worked in the coaching staff of professional teams, and the appointment to the French national team will be his return to football work at this level.
Zidane's debut as head coach of the French national team is scheduled for September 25. France will play against Turkey in the first round of the Nations League group stage.
