Avonia will become a Coventry player for 17 million pounds

0
Coventry City have reached an agreement for the transfer of 29-year-old Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Avonia. The amount of the deal will be about 17 million pounds. The broadcaster Blues are expected to officially complete their transfer ahead of Friday's Premier League opener against Arsenal, which kicks off at 10pm Kyiv time (8pm BST). On Sunday, before the start of the second half of the last pre-season friendly match against French side Brest, the players and coaching staff of Forest arranged a corridor of honor for Avonia. This allowed the football player to say a warm goodbye to the fans and the club for which he played in recent years. Avonia moved to Nottingham Forest in 2022 from Union Berlin for a club record fee of £17.2m at the time. During his performances, he scored 23 goals in 103 matches. However, the Nigerian has lost his place in the starting line-up in recent times, losing out to competition from Chris Wood and Igor Jesus, and didn't even make the squad for the Europa League last season. The striker started just three times last season, scoring four goals in 17 appearances in all competitions. A serious test for the player came in May 2025, when after a scary collision with the goalpost in a match against Leicester, he suffered a ruptured intestine, due to which he had to be put into an artificial coma. Fortunately, the football player was able to fully recover.
