Chelsea's owners are negotiating the sale of the club's shares to Clearlake Capital

0
Todd Boeli and Mark Walter are in talks with Clearlake Capital to sell their stake in Chelsea. According to the Financial Times, the potential deal could end a long-running dispute within the owners of the London club. Clearlake currently owns more than 60% of Chelsea's economic share. At the same time, despite having a larger share of ownership, Clearlake and the Boeli and Walter consortium have equal rights to manage the club. Boeli himself continues to act as the chairman of Chelsea. The differences between the co-owners arose after the purchase of the club in 2022 for 2.5 billion pounds. The parties have repeatedly had different views on Chelsea's development strategy, and negotiations on a possible redistribution of ownership have been ongoing for several years. However, no agreements have been reached so far. Sources familiar with the progress of the negotiations emphasize that the deal may or may not be completed. The talks also come amid a major shakeup in Walter's business assets. Last week, he agreed to sell his stake in the Los Angeles Lakers for $12.5 billion to a consortium led by former Disney chief Bob Iger and investor Joshua Kushner.
