Arsenal started the new season of the English Premier League with a convincing victory. In the opening match of the championship, Mikel Arteta's side crushed Coventry 3-0 at home. The home team immediately took control of the game and opened the scoring in the 15th minute. Christos Tsolis took advantage of a Coventry defender's mistake and created a chance, after which Riccardo Calafiori quickly delivered the ball to Kai Havertz. The German slotted into the far corner for Arsenal's first goal in the new league. Not even ten minutes had passed when the advantage of the Londoners was doubled. Tsolis was once again at the center of the action with a cross that goalkeeper Bradley Rushworth headed straight at Bukayo Saka. The Englishman hit the empty net with no problems — 2:0. Coventry, who returned to the top flight under Frank Lampard after a long absence, tried to resist but could not cause Arsenal serious problems. Before the break, the home team was in full control of the game and retired with a comfortable lead. At the start of the second half, Arsenal finally removed the question of a winner. In the 49th minute, Martin Edegaard found himself between the lines of the Coventry defense and midfield before receiving a pass from Ben White and firing towards goal. The shot was not perfect, but Rushworth was disoriented - the ball took an unusual trajectory and flew past the goalkeeper and ended up in the net. With a score of 3:0, Arsenal calmly led the match to victory. The Londoners could score a few more times, while Coventry created several dangerous moments only at the end of the meeting, but the guests could not escape from defeat. Thus, Arsenal began the defense of the league title with three points and a dry victory. For Coventry, the return to the Premier League turned out to be extremely difficult: in the first round, Frank Lampard's team faced the current champion and lost to him by a large score.
