Arsenal plot Konsa move after Guimaraes breakthrough
0
Arsenal have reportedly reached an agreement with Newcastle United for Bruno Guimaraes, with the Brazil midfielder now expected to complete his move to the Emirates Stadium after a medical this week. insider sources's insider says the two clubs settled on a fee of €87 million (£75 million), finally breaking a saga that had forced Guimaraes to wait.
According to the media, the Gunners are already preparing a fresh offer for England defender Ezri Konsa. Mikel Arteta's side had a previous bid come up short of Aston Villa's €70 million (£60 million) valuation.
Villa are not eager to sell. Unai Emery's side is in talks with Konsa over a new contract, with his current deal expiring in summer 2028, and have less financial need to negotiate after bringing in more than €163 million (£140 million) from Morgan Rogers and Youri Tielemans.
Arsenal's interest in another defender follows the news that William Saliba was ruled out for an extended period in July. The 25-year-old aggravated a pre-existing back injury in France's World Cup semi-final loss to eventual champions Spain.
Konsa has established himself as one of the Premier League's top center-backs at Villa Park. The former Brentford man has 286 appearances and 12 goals for the club, can play at center back or right back, and was key to Villa's Europa League triumph last season - their first European silverware since 1982. He has 28 England caps and helped the Three Lions beat France in this summer's World Cup bronze final to secure their best finish at a World Cup since 1966.
