Arsenal transfer roundup: Vinicius Jr uncertainty, Konsa bid prepared, Guimaraes fee emerges
0
Arsenal's pursuit of Vinicius Jr remains one of the most talked-about stories of the window, but there are mixed signals about how close a deal really is. Reports coming out of Spain claim the Real Madrid forward has turned down a new contract and that Arsenal sporting director Andrea Berta has told the club's players the Brazilian is likely to join. Other sources, though, say Vinicius is still expected to stay in Madrid after holding talks with the club's hierarchy on Wednesday. With Yan Diomande set to arrive, the spotlight on Vinicius's next move will only intensify.
Arsenal are also ready to test Aston Villa again for Ezri Konsa. The first offer was rejected because it did not reach Villa's valuation of around €70m, and the Birmingham club would prefer to keep the England defender. The Gunners, however, need defensive cover while William Saliba is out injured, so a second bid is expected in the near future.
In attack, Arsenal think they have an edge in the chase for Atletico Madrid's Julian Alvarez. The striker supposedly wants Barcelona, and the reigning LaLiga champions are expected to make a serious new move for him, but nothing is guaranteed. Atletico have made clear they will not sell to a domestic rival, which could leave the door open for a club from abroad. Arsenal are monitoring closely, especially with Andrea Berta's links to Atletico after his time as their sporting director.
There is also fresh clarity on Bruno Guimaraes. Arsenal are reportedly paying around €87m for the Newcastle midfielder, with both clubs having shifted from their original positions. Arsenal initially did not want to go above €70m, while Newcastle were holding out for more than €90m. Reports suggest the player is waiting for permission to travel for his medical as the agreement moves closer.
