Liverpool launch £85m move for dream Mo Salah replacement
With the World Cup over, are ready to send their transfer window into overdrive as Andoni Iraola’s side prepare to launch a £85 million (€100m) bid to sign Mohamed Salah’s Anfield replacement.
Liverpool have already signed winger Victor Munoz from Osasuna this summer, but the Reds are now focusing on the right wing berth, where there is a massive void after Salah departed as a free agent at the end of June.
Various names have been linked with the Reds, but according to reports, Liverpool are ready to open the bidding for ’s .
Liverpool make Barcola bid
“Here we go! Liverpool are making an attack on Bradley Barcola,” French journalist Sebastien Vidal reports on X.
“The Reds are preparing an immediate offer, estimated at £85m, to try to convince PSG to sell the 23-year-old France winger, who has just had another remarkable season.
“The English club have made him one of their offensive priorities this summer.”
What type of player is Bradley Barcola?
Barcola was signed by PSG for €45m from Lyon in the summer of 2023 and has since played 152 games for the Parc des Princes club, returning 39 goals and 37 assists.
He is most noted for his speed, yet technically he is a strong player, with his dribbling and passing both of a very high standard. Meanwhile, it would be impossible to succeed under Luis Enrique without a strong defensive ethic, which he possesses in abundance.
Barcola is capable of playing across the attacking line but has featured most prominently on the left during his time in Paris.
He is a player well suited to playing in a team that likes to attack with a great deal of directness due to his pace and dribbling qualities.
Why might PSG sell?
Barcola’s future at PSG has been cast into some doubt as his contract only has two years left to run.
Negotiations over a new contract have not passed smoothly, and as such PSG potentially see this as an opportunity to get big money for a player who is not entirely content at the club.
On top of this, Barcola has struggled to elevate his level over the course of the last year, with criticism coming over his end product – and in particular his finishing. He scored 13 goals and created seven more across all competitions last term.
Liverpool’s offer of £85m, meanwhile, is substantially greater than the player’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) of £54m (€63.6m).
Salah comparisons
The critique that Barcola has faced in France, meanwhile, is similar to the concerns that were levelled towards Salah before he joined Liverpool from Roma in 2017.
The Egypt international obliterated these doubts over the course of a spectacular nine-year stay at Anfield, and if the Frenchman were to hit anything like these heights on Merseyside, his transfer fee would look like a bargain.
