Aston Villa complete loan signing of Alejandro Garnacho from Chelsea

Aston Villa have officially announced the arrival of Chelsea winger Alejandro Garnacho on a loan deal that runs until the end of the 2026-27 season. The 22-year-old Argentine has already agreed a four-year contract at Villa Park, and the move includes an obligation for a permanent transfer next summer if certain conditions are met. The specifics of the clause have not been disclosed, but Chelsea expect it to be triggered easily based on metrics such as appearances, securing their original £43 million valuation. Garnacho’s departure from Stamford Bridge follows Chelsea’s record £117 million capture of Morgan Rogers from Villa just a day earlier. Villa head coach Unai Emery said he was “delighted” to add the winger to his squad. “He is so talented, young and he showed us his wish to help our project. We are really happy,” Emery added. The winger becomes Villa’s fourth signing of the window, joining Johan Manzambi, Joao Gomes and Modou Keba Cisse. On the other side, Villa have generated nearly £200 million in player sales this summer, with Rogers, Youri Tielemans, Donyell Malen, Enzo Barrenechea and Lewis Dobbin all moving on. If the move becomes permanent, Garnacho will have achieved something other loan attackers could not at Villa. Marcus Rashford’s 17-game spell in 2024-25 earned him an England recall, while Jadon Sancho struggled to impress and Harvey Elliott was left in limbo as Emery avoided triggering a permanent obligation. Garnacho, clearly surplus at Chelsea, does not want to return to a place where he is not needed. His record of one goal and four assists in 24 Premier League appearances for Chelsea last season — eight goals in 43 games across all competitions — suggests he must raise his level to meet Emery’s demands. His numbers at Manchester United (16 goals, 8 assists in 93 games) also indicate room for improvement in end product. The talent is there; now it is up to Garnacho to show it.
