The broadcaster has announced a special ‘Stay Up or Catch Up’ initiative for the England vs. Mexico last-16 tie at the 2026 World Cup, offering fans two ways to experience the knockout showdown. The match, which kicks off at 01:00 BST on Monday, will be broadcast exclusively live on broadcaster One and broadcaster iPlayer. Kelly Cates will lead the coverage alongside pundits Wayne Rooney, Joe Hart, and Micah Richards. For those who can’t stay up, a full no-spoiler replay will air on broadcaster Two at 07:10 BST, and an on-demand version will hit broadcaster iPlayer immediately after the final whistle. Live radio commentary will be available on broadcaster Radio 5 Live and broadcaster Sounds, while the sources website and app will provide live text updates and in-match clips. An extended 15-minute highlights package will also be posted on iPlayer and the sources Football YouTube channel. Additionally, fans can follow the action in 3D through sources’s World Cup 3D feature. “World Cup knockout football is absolutely unmissable, but a 1:00am kick-off isn’t realistic for everyone,” said broadcaster director of sport Alex Kay-Jelski. “We wanted to make sure there was an option for those fans who just can’t stay up to experience one of England’s biggest matches live.” England reached the last 16 after a dramatic 2-1 victory over DR Congo, which drew a peak audience of 16.3 million. That match, with a 17:00 BST start, averaged 14 million viewers on broadcaster TV — the broadcaster’s biggest audience of the year. Manager Thomas Tuchel has encouraged parents to let their children stay up for the match. “There’s so much school to go to, but the World Cup is every four years. Let them watch,” Tuchel said after the DR Congo win. Pubs across England and Wales will be permitted to stay open until 05:00 BST on Monday for the game.
