Xabi Alonso’s side picked up a crucial 3-2 win over local rivals Fulham in their fixture of the new Premier League season on Monday and while a Carabao Cup clash against Luton Town awaits on Thursday, club officials will be prioritising transfer dealings for the time being. The signings of Morgan Rogers and Maxence Lacroix already look to have bolstered Chelsea’s starting XI, with the duo both impressing at Craven Cottage, while the Blues now have strong squad depth thanks to signings such as Geovany Quenda, Valentin Barco, Danny Welbeck and Marco Palestra. The departures of Marc Cucurella, Andrey Santos and others have helped raise funds, and Chelsea look primed to potentially be Arsenal’s closest challengers for the Premier League title this term. The west London giants have been active in the market throughout the summer, but they are still expected to be busy right up until Deadline Day. In fact, there are a number of deals that Alonso may like to see finalised. Sign Alex Scott> Bournemouth star Alex Scott is the only player Chelsea have any serious interest in signing before the transfer window closes, with the Englishman currently regarded as the Blues’ top target. It’s understood that Bournemouth have already rebuffed several offers for the 22-year-old, but Chelsea are expected to intensify their pursuit of his signature, despite the fact Marco Rose’s side have zero interest in sanctioning a sale. Scott was one of the best midfielders in the Premier League last season and he looks perfectly-suited to playing alongside Moises Caicedo at Stamford Bridge. His stamina is immense, he boasts excellent close control and his passing range is also splendid. All in all, Scott looks to be the ideal signing for Chelsea, but he may cost in excess of €100 million. Sell Enzo Fernandez The only way Chelsea will be able to finalise a deal for Scott is if Enzo Fernandez is sold to Manchester City. While Alonso may well be keen to keep the Argentina international, it’s clear that he wants to leave and having an unhappy player in camp could threaten to undermine Chelsea’s progress this season. So, a sale for €140m is arguably the best course of action for all parties. Fernandez has been a key player throughout his time at Stamford Bridge, but he has never suited playing alongside Caicedo in a double pivot and with Alonso set to favour a 3-4-2-1 system, it makes sense for Chelsea to offload the Argentine in order to sign Scott. Trim the squad down Chelsea still have far too many first-team players on their books and the club need to finalise a host of departures before the window closes. Deals have been agreed for Mamadou Sarr (Real Sociedad) and Axel Disasi (Crystal Palace) to depart on loan, while the Blues are also in advanced talks to offload Liam Delap to Nottingham Forest and Deivid Washington to Strasbourg. In addition, the club also wants to sell Marc Guiu, Nicolas Jackson , David Datro Fofana and Tosin Adarabioyo before Deadline Day, with all four players expected to leave on permanent deals shortly. Agreeing these deals is a must and, if their asking prices are met, the club could earn close to €200m in sales before Deadline Day. Loaning out Dario Essugo is also a necessity given he is now behind a host of players in the midfield pecking order. It’s not yet guaranteed that Chelsea will successfully trim down their squad exactly to Alonso’s liking, but it seems highly likely that several exits will be completed shortly, with the squad beginning to take shape.
