Jordan Henderson joins Chelsea as 10th signing of busy summer

Chelsea have confirmed the signing of Jordan Henderson on a free transfer, with the England midfielder committing to a two-year contract at Stamford Bridge that runs until 2028. The move was completed after Brentford agreed to end Henderson's contract by mutual consent, allowing him to leave after only one season with Brentford. Henderson, a surprise inclusion in Thomas Tuchel's World Cup squad, becomes Chelsea's 10th arrival of the summer window. He follows Danny Welbeck into the squad as the club looks to address the issues caused by a young squad in recent years, having finished 10th in the Premier League last season after a hugely disappointing 2025-26 campaign. "Given the size of the club, the manager, who I have great admiration for, and the quality of the players, this was a huge opportunity I couldn't turn down," Henderson told Chelsea's official website. "I was also so impressed with how much the ownership want Chelsea to be successful and move in the right direction. For me, it's about giving everything every single day, both on and off the field, to help the players around me and the team as much as possible. I'm very excited to get going." Henderson made 34 appearances for Brentford last term in all competitions, scoring one goal and registering three assists. Chelsea's summer outlay has reached just shy of €400 million, with Morgan Rogers, Maxence Lacroix, Marco Palestra, Geovany Quenda, Valentin Barco, Emmanuel Emegha, Denner, Danny Welbeck and Dastan Satpaev all arriving this window. Henderson has been added on a Bosman deal. There was also positive news regarding Mykhailo Mudryk, who has been cleared to play after his four-year doping ban was cut short. He has joined up with the squad in Hong Kong for preseason, although he could be sent out on loan for the coming campaign, with Coventry City and several other European clubs showing interest.
