Lukaku's Fenerbahce move could hand Chelsea the funds to sign Alex Scott

Romelu Lukaku's expected switch to Fenerbahce could provide Chelsea with the extra financial firepower to sign Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott. The 33-year-old Belgium striker has one year left on his Napoli deal and comes off an injury-hit season. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Lukaku has reached an agreement in principle with Fenerbahce, with a two-year contract ready for him to sign. Napoli and Fenerbahce are now discussing final details, as Allegri's side look to shift him off the wage bill. Napoli want around €15 million, while Fenerbahce are trying to negotiate a slightly lower fee. That transfer matters for Chelsea because they inserted a 40% sell-on clause when they sold Lukaku to Napoli for €30.7 million in 2024. If the Fenerbahce deal goes through at the reported asking price, Chelsea would receive at least €5 million. That cash could be redirected toward Scott, who remains a target. Chelsea have already spent €389m on new signings this summer, so the focus has shifted to outgoings before Deadline Day. As many as 20 players could leave Stamford Bridge on a permanent deal or loan. The income from Lukaku's sale, plus the expected exits of Trevoh Chalobah and Liam Delap, could help the club get a Scott deal done. Napoli, meanwhile, view Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus as a possible replacement for Lukaku, but they want to finalise the Belgian's exit first.
