|NewsUefa Warns Fifa of Legal Fight Over Abandoned Commercial Plan
0
Uefa has warned Fifa that it is prepared to launch legal proceedings over Gianni Infantino's abandoned plan to bring private investors into its major tournaments, including the World Cups.
In a letter to Infantino, Uefa said it is "actively considering legal action, arbitration, and/or regulatory complaints" connected to the proposed Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE) structure. The project would have created a commercial subsidiary to run Fifa's main events, with outside investors invited to buy minority, non-controlling stakes.
The warning escalates a dispute that has already spilled into public view. Uefa and Concacaf had previously issued statements questioning Infantino's leadership and criticising the plan. On Monday, Wales became the first nation to publicly withdraw its backing for Infantino's bid to continue as Fifa president.
Uefa's letter also calls for "immediate steps" to identify, locate and preserve all documents and electronically stored information related to the FFE plan. It adds that these obligations stand independently of any internal retention or deletion policies Fifa may have.
Fifa has been contacted for comment.
