Only two African teams survive World Cup 2026 Round of 32

0
The Round of 32 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup turned into a brutal reality check for African football. Out of nine representatives from the continent, only two managed to advance to the Round of 16. Seven African nations saw their tournament end at the first knockout hurdle. The list of eliminated sides includes South Africa, Ivory Coast, Senegal, DR Congo, Cape Verde, Algeria, and Ghana. Each arrived with hopes of making a deep run, but the intensity and quality of the competition proved too much. The identities of the two survivors haven't been disclosed yet, but the numbers tell the story: just 22 percent of Africa's participants made it past the opening playoff round. That marks one of the worst collective performances by the continent in World Cup history.
