Barcola's Liverpool move gathers pace as PSG close on Godts
0
Liverpool's move for Bradley Barcola has been handed a major boost after Paris Saint-Germain started lining up a replacement.
PSG sporting director Luis Campos was spotted in Portugal on Friday holding talks with Ajax winger Mika Godts, who has emerged as the club's chosen successor to the France winger.
insider reports that Godts has already agreed to join PSG in principle. Personal terms are not expected to be a problem, with the Belgian said to be excited by the project in Paris. The main obstacle is Ajax's valuation: the Amsterdam club want €60 million, while PSG have opened negotiations and submitted an offer below that figure.
Once the Godts deal is resolved, the key issue becomes Barcola's exit. Barcola has not yet agreed personal terms with Liverpool, but he is believed to be keen on the move. PSG have set an asking price of €170 million, which would be a Premier League record if Liverpool paid it. No swift breakthrough is expected, and Barcola still has two years left on his contract. His Estimated Transfer Value is €63.6 million.
PSG have never hidden their willingness to sell players who are not fully committed to the project. With Godts close to arriving, Barcola's path to Anfield looks increasingly clear.
The two wingers offer contrasting styles. Barcola is a devastating runner in transition, using his acceleration to get behind defences, but he can be wasteful in front of goal. Godts, 21, is closer to the Khvicha Kvaratskhelia profile: comfortable operating in tight areas and more efficient in front of goal. He may take fewer shots and post lower xG numbers than Barcola, but he scored more goals per 90 last season. He was also the more creative of the two, producing more than 50% more key passes and nearly double the expected assists in league action.
