Romano drops Rashford update – but the important thing is what he didn’t say

Transfer insider insider has confirmed that Manchester United attacker Marcus Rashford will not move to Turkey this summer – but what might be more telling is what the expert didn’t say over the England star’s future.
The Super Lig has been the destination for several high-profile players already this summer, with Mohamed Salah, Leandro Trossard and Mason Greenwood among those to jet to Turkey in what has been a historic transfer window.
Rashford has been linked with a stunning late move to Turkey, but Romano has shot down the rumours.
“Marcus Rashford stance has not changed despite reports: he’s not going to join Turkish clubs this summer,” Romano said on X . “Full focus on Manchester United and no chance for Fenerbahce move.”
But what was arguably most remarkable about Romano’s statement was the lack of acknowledgement of the recent rise in interest from both Arsenal and Barcelona .
Rashford’s transfer saga – and why it matters now more than ever
Rashford had been expected to leave Manchester United this summer, largely because the club wanted to reduce their wage bill. A €30 million move to Barcelona had been anticipated, yet the Catalans were unwilling to foot the salary of the 28-year-old.
Other options were explored and there was interest in the player, yet ultimately no deal was done.
United, meanwhile, have been publicly content to retain the forward, albeit with a sense that they really had no other choice.
Rashford has made it clear that he will only consider offers from big clubs.
With none of these expected to be forthcoming, it seemed that everyone had settled into the new situation, yet this late interest from Arsenal and Barcelona could potentially change everything. These are the types of clubs who could interest Rashford and who can meet Man Utd’s rather modest transfer demands.
Romano, meanwhile, has been across the transfer saga from the outset, delivering blow-by-blow updates. It is strange, therefore, that he has not issued a statement on the fresh interest in the player.
This could be interpreted as a sign that behind the scenes, cogs towards a potential shock late summer transfer are turning.
Why Rashford’s future could hinge on Alvarez
Julian Alvarez could be the kingmaker in this deal.
The Atletico Madrid striker is wanted by both Arsenal and Barcelona . Alvarez wants Barcelona but will not be sold there by Atleti, who want to ship him to Arsenal, though the player is refusing to go back to the Premier League.
That situation is therefore stuck in a deadlock, prompting these teams to look elsewhere.
Barcelona, in particular, are desperate for attacking options following the departures of Robert Lewandowski and Ferran Torres, leaving them without a recognised centre-forward. So far this has not impacted their performances, but it’s an uncomfortable position for Hansi Flick’s side to be in.
Rashford rumours are, therefore, likely to continue until the transfer deadline – particularly with Romano refusing to put a lid on them at this crucial time in the window.
