Salah 'Agrees' Trabzonspor Deal, But President Denies It

Mohamed Salah has reportedly agreed to join Trabzonspor on a two-year contract, according to Turkish transfer journalist Yagiz Sabuncuoglu. The 34-year-old is a free agent after leaving Liverpool this summer, bringing an end to a nine-year spell at Anfield. Salah's last season on Merseyside was overshadowed by a breakdown in his relationship with head coach Arne Slot, who has since been dismissed. The Egypt international had long been linked with a move to the Saudi Pro League or Major League Soccer, with San Diego and Sporting Kansas City both mentioned. But Salah is believed to have made staying in Europe his priority. Trabzonspor, third in the Super Lig last season, have been one of Turkey's busiest clubs in the market, including loaning Andre Onana from Man Utd in back-to-back campaigns. They now face a Europa League playoff later this month. While Sabuncuoglu's report has generated excitement, it has not been independently confirmed. The journalist was heavily criticised after claiming two weeks ago that Besiktas had agreed terms with Salah, a story the Istanbul club called entirely fictional and accused him of misleading the public. He has also reported Galatasaray agreed a deal for Lokomotiv Moscow's Alexey Batrakov, which Russian media denied. Trabzonspor president Ertugrul Dogan has flatly denied the club have an agreement or planned talks with Salah. "There is no such agreement," he said. "Who wouldn't want Salah? That is a separate matter." Sabuncuoglu has since posted that one contract clause still needs approval before the deal can be completed.
