Newcastle to trigger €300m transfer domino as next signing revealed Make us your Google favourite Newcastle United are in advanced talks to sign Manchester City midfielder Nico Gonzalez , and the deal could kickstart a transfer domino worth €300 million. The 24-year-old struggled for consistent game time last season and he is now close to leaving the Etihad Stadium on a permanent deal after being an unused substitute during their 2-1 victory over Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon. New boss Enzo Maresca favoured Marc Guehi in a central midfield role ahead of Gonzalez during City’s first game of the new Premier League season and multiple reports have confirmed that Newcastle are now closing in on a €60m deal for the Spaniard, who joined Man City in January 2025. In the early hours of Monday morning, transfer expert insider posted on X: “Understand Newcastle have made big progress in talks to sign Nico González tonight! Agreement almost done with Manchester City and talks ongoing with player side to get the deal done early this week.” Meanwhile, Ben Jacobs has confirmed that advanced talks are underway, with Gonzalez set to leave Man City after just 18 months at the club. Newcastle trigger €300m domino It’s understood that Gonzalez is likely to join Newcastle for a fee of roughly €60m and he will immediately compete with Lewis Miley, Joelinton, Jacob Ramsey, Joe Willock and summer signings Aladji Bamba and Sean Steur for a starting XI place at St James’ Park. Furthermore, if his proposed move to Matthias Jaissle’s side is completed before Deadline Day, as expected, it will likely trigger Man City into action amid their continued pursuit of Enzo Fernandez . The Argentina international is regarded as their primary target for the remainder of the summer transfer window and rumours indicate they are now willing to match Chelsea ’s €140m asking price in order to bring him to the Etihad Stadium. Xabi Alonso’s side are reluctant to sanction a sale this close to Deadline Day, but they are willing to offload Fernandez if their valuation is met and it’s likely that Bournemouth star Alex Scott would be targeted if City agree a deal. Scott has been on Chelsea’s radar for the entire summer and after seeing an initial bid knocked back, it’s believed that a fee of at least €100m will be required to finalise a deal, with Bournemouth desperate to retain his services for at least another season. So, if Gonzalez joins Newcastle for €60m, it could result in Fernandez completing a €140m move to Man City and Scott signing for Chelsea for €100m.
