Rangers lead chase for Ryan Fosso as Ferguson alternative and Raskin replacement

Rangers are moving quickly to identify a cost-effective midfield replacement for Nicolas Raskin, with Sturm Graz’s Ryan Fosso emerging as the club’s top target.
According to broadcaster Sport Switzerland, the Ibrox side is “furthest along” in negotiations for the Cameroon international, though Serie A side Torino and La Liga outfit Levante also remain firmly in the race. Levante have already submitted an initial contract offer to Fosso’s camp.
The 24-year-old only arrived in Austria in January, joining Sturm Graz from Fortuna Sittard for €900,000. His performances since then have caught the eye of bigger clubs, with Rangers now leading the pursuit.
Fosso is described as a complete midfielder by transfer insider Sacha Tavolieri, who says the player’s all-round game has made him an attractive prospect.
“A modern midfielder, he combines excellent game reading, controlled aggression in duels, and a ball-winning ability that allows him to extinguish numerous dangerous situations. His work rate, tactical intelligence, and capacity to cover large areas make him a true asset to his team. His off-the-ball qualities, constant pressing, and positional awareness have also been regularly highlighted since his arrival in Graz,” Tavolieri said.
“Beyond his defensive impact, Fosso also possesses remarkable technical skill. Capable of breaking through the first line of defence with his passing or dribbling, he plays with great precision under pressure and displays a rare maturity for a player of his age.”
Rangers had previously been linked with Bologna’s Lewis Ferguson as a potential replacement for Raskin, who is reportedly attracting interest from Hull City with a £14 million (€16.4m) price tag. However, Ferguson’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) sits at €17.2m, and Bologna are believed to be holding out for around €20m — a figure that would smash Rangers’ club-record fee.
With Rangers reportedly only prepared to go as high as €17.5m for the Scotland international, the focus has shifted to Fosso as a more affordable alternative.
Tavolieri did issue a word of warning, however: “Rangers have taken the lead, but Torino and Levante remain firmly in the running for a player whose stock continues to rise. This situation is still very fragile and could change rapidly. Anything could still happen.”
If Rangers are to secure Fosso, they will need to act decisively — and that likely means choosing him over Ferguson.
