Rangers close in on Daisuke Yokota after McInnes urges more signings

Rangers are on the verge of bringing in Japanese winger Daisuke Yokota from Hannover, with transfer insider insider reporting that a verbal agreement is in place. The Scottish Premiership club are expected to pay an initial €3.3m (£2.8m) for the 26-year-old, and the deal could reach €4m (£3.4m) including €700,000 (£599,000) in add-ons. Yokota joined Hannover permanently this summer after a loan spell in which he scored five goals and provided four assists. Hannover, however, finished fourth in Germany's second tier and missed out on Bundesliga promotion. Rangers have been linked with a number of wingers this summer, including Coventry City's Jahnoah Markelo and Amario Cozier-Duberry of Brighton and Hove Albion. The club also have money to spend after Finland winger Oliver Antman joined Anderlecht last week in a deal worth up to €4.6m (£4m). Manager Derek McInnes called for more additions after Friday's 1-1 draw at Dundee United, where Theo Aasgaard scored a second-half equaliser to earn Rangers a point in their Premiership opener. McInnes said the squad still needs quality signings, particularly in the final third, and stressed that new arrivals have to be secured quickly. He acknowledged the work going on behind the scenes but pointed to important league and European fixtures as reasons to speed things up. This is McInnes' first season in charge, and Rangers have already made eight signings. Ivor Pandur, Ross McCrorie, Olwethu Makhanya, Vanja Dragojevic, Dan Neil, Cammy Devlin and Lawrence Shankland have arrived on permanent deals, while Ben Godfrey joined on a season-long loan from Atalanta. Godfrey is set to miss around four weeks with a hamstring injury. Rangers return to action on Thursday away to Polish side Jagiellonia Bialystok in the first leg of their UEFA Europa League third qualifying round tie.
