The summer transfer window is well and truly open across Europe’s top five leagues, and Saturday produced a whirlwind of official activity. Tottenham, Chelsea, Manchester City, Barcelona and Real Madrid all pushed through major deals, reshaping their squads ahead of the new campaign.
Tottenham were the day’s busiest side, completing a blockbuster €108 million move for Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali. Sporting director Johan Lange and manager Roberto De Zerbi also secured Mateus Fernandes, Jan Paul van Hecke, Andrew Robertson, Marcos Senesi and Martin Dubravka in a clear statement of ambition.
Chelsea continued their aggressive rebuild by announcing Marco Palestra, Geovany Quenda, Emmanuel Emegha, Dastan Satpaev and Denner. The Blues remain in the market for Maxence Lacroix and Pep Chavarria, but those deals are still in the works.
Manchester City made their mark by signing Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson for a club-record fee. The Premier League champions also hijacked Arsenal’s move for young talent Jeremy Monga, a late twist that left the Gunners empty-handed.
Barcelona splashed €80 million on Newcastle forward Anthony Gordon, adding pace and firepower to Hansi Flick’s attack. Meanwhile, rivals Real Madrid were equally active: José Mourinho’s squad now features Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konaté and Denzel Dumfries as the club targets another Champions League title.
Bayern Munich secured Eintracht Frankfurt full-back Nathaniel Brown, while Paris Saint-Germain received encouraging signs that RB Leipzig starlet Yan Diomande wants to join them, despite strong interest from Liverpool.
Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola looks set to miss out on Diomande, but his side did complete deals for Osasuna winger Victor Munoz and Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet.
In Italy, Serie A saw its only confirmed move of the day: Hernani moved from Monza to Palermo for €1 million. No official transfers were recorded in La Liga, the Bundesliga, or Ligue 1 on Saturday.
