Vinicius Junior signs new Real Madrid deal until 2032: salary, bonuses and the Arsenal interest
0
Vinicius Junior has ended weeks of uncertainty by signing a new contract with Real Madrid, putting to rest speculation that he could leave the club this summer. The winger's previous deal was due to expire in the summer of 2027, and Madrid had made its position clear: agree fresh terms or be sold. That standoff opened the door to Arsenal, with reports of a blockbuster €150 million move circulating during the window.
According to reports, Arsenal was ready to break both the bank and its wage structure to land Vinicius if Madrid made him available. The club's stance was simple: if a player of that quality is available and wants to join, it will do whatever it takes. Arsenal had reportedly been willing to take the same approach when Kylian Mbappe was nearing the end of his PSG contract before his free transfer to Madrid.
In the end, Vinicius signed a new deal through 2032. Cynics have suggested the Arsenal talk helped him and his representatives secure better conditions. Real Madrid's official statement called him one of the most important players in one of the most successful periods in the club's history. Vinicius wrote on Instagram: "Eight years at the Bernabeu are too short... Six more years, and then forever."
The delay in reaching an agreement came down to money. Vinicius was asking for €30 million per year, while Madrid was offering around €20 million. The club announced the renewal on Thursday, and Brazilian reports say Madrid did not increase the base salary beyond the €20 million originally on the table. That is still an improvement on the €17.5 million he was earning before. The gap was closed through bigger bonuses tied to goals, appearances and his signing bonus, potentially bringing his total close to the €30 million he wanted.
Madrid ultimately decided that finding a new elite left winger in the current market would cost more than keeping Vinicius. The club recently spent €140 million on Yan Diomande from RB Leipzig and had no appetite for another long, expensive saga. Jose Mourinho was also key to the negotiations, speaking directly with the former Flamengo forward about staying at the club.
Vinicius has won 14 trophies with Real Madrid, including two Champions League titles, three Club World Cups, two UEFA Super Cups, three LaLiga titles, one Copa del Rey and three Spanish Super Cups. He scored the winner against Liverpool in the 2022 Champions League final and was on target again in the 2024 final as Real Madrid beat Borussia Dortmund.
