England Midfielder Jordan Henderson Ruled Out of World Cup After Freak Hoarding Fall

England’s World Cup campaign has taken an unexpected blow before the quarter-finals, with midfielder Jordan Henderson ruled out for the remainder of the tournament after a bizarre injury suffered in the aftermath of their 3-2 victory over Mexico at the Azteca Stadium.
The 36-year-old Brentford player was jumping over the advertising hoardings to join the celebration when he slipped and landed awkwardly on his wrist. The impact caused a serious fracture, and Henderson was immediately surrounded by his teammates as medical staff rushed onto the field.
He was later carried off on a stretcher and given oxygen before being taken to a hospital in Mexico City. England head coach Thomas Tuchel confirmed the break after the match, revealing that Henderson remained in Mexico with a member of the support staff and did not travel back with the squad to their training base in Kansas City on Monday.
Henderson had featured for just six minutes in this World Cup, appearing near the end of England’s 2-0 Group L win over Panama. His absence means he will miss the quarter-final clash against Norway, as well as any further matches should England progress.
There is a possibility the midfielder will require surgery on the arm, with further assessments scheduled in the coming days.
