Transfer Deadline Day is in sight and a host of blockbuster deals are expected to be formally announced over the coming days as the biggest clubs in Europe look to strengthen their squads before the window shuts.
The likes of Morgan Rogers, Sandro Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes have already secured major moves so far this summer, and several other world-class superstars will follow suit over the next few days.
Below, sources runs through five transfers that are set to be completed before the end of this week.
Enzo Fernandez to Man City
Enzo Fernandez wants to join Man City . Man City want to sign Enzo Fernandez. And it looks as though a deal may finally be completed this week, with Enzo Maresca’s side reportedly willing to match Chelsea’s €140 million asking price.
The Argentina international has been linked with an Etihad Stadium switch for several weeks and it’s understood that talks are set to ramp up over the coming days as City look to sign a replacement for Nico Gonzalez, who is joining Newcastle United.
Di Marzio report that Man City officials “expect” to sign Fernandez this week, with the midfielder set to become their most expensive signing of all time. Chelsea, in turn, will likely intensify their bid to sign Bournemouth star Alex Scott.
Carlos Baleba to Man Utd
Carlos Baleba has signed his contract at Manchester United and undergone his medical, with an official announcement set to be made shortly.
The Cameroon international will join the club from Brighton & Hove Albion for an initial transfer fee of €76m (£65m) and he will bolster Man Utd’s midfield roster, which already contains Kobbie Mainoo and fellow summer signings Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans.
Baleba has penned a five-year deal at Old Trafford, although fans will be forced to wait a little while longer for his debut after he picked up an ankle injury in pre-season.
Bradley Barcola to Liverpool
Bradley Barcola is seen as Liverpool’s primary target for the remainder of the summer window and there is significant optimism that a deal will be agreed before Deadline Day.
The France international has been omitted from Paris Saint-Germain’s squad for their past two games - against RC Lens and Stade Rennais - and it’s understood that he wants to join Andoni Iraola’s side following the arrivals of Mika Godts, Ferran Torres and Maghnes Akliouche at the Parc des Princes.
PSG are asking for €170m to sanction a sale, but Liverpool are confident that a deal will be struck for a cheaper fee, with Barcola’s team-mate Ibrahim Mbaye also on the Reds’ radar.
Ollie Watkins to Al-Hilal
Al-Hilal have expressed their desire to sign Ollie Watkins and it’s understood that he wants to join the Saudi Pro League side, with talks currently underway with the Aston Villa hierarchy, who have already rejected one bid for the England striker.
Watkins was absent from Villa’s matchday squad for their 4-0 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday and when asked about his exclusion, Villa boss Unai Emery said: “This question is for him. Can you call him and [put] the question to him? Ask him. I can only answer it by silence.”
Al-Hilal are also in talks with Arsenal over a deal for Gabriel Martinelli, with the Brazil international expected to leave the Emirates Stadium before Deadline Day after falling down the pecking order following the signing of Christos Tzolis.
Ayyoub Bouaddi to Man City
While they remain in talks over a deal for Fernandez, Man City have already reached a full agreement to sign Lille midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi for €95m, plus €5m in add-ons.
The Morocco international, who shone for his country at the World Cup, will replace Rodri in the Man City squad and he is expected to immediately play a key role at the Etihad Stadium, despite the fact he is still only 18 years old.
Bouaddi already has over 100 senior games for club and country under his belt, and he will officially be unveiled as a Man City player shortly.
