Belgium delivered a statement performance in the Round of 16 at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, dismantling the United States 4-1 to book their spot in the quarterfinals. Rudi Garcia's side played arguably their best match of the tournament, overwhelming the Americans from the opening whistle. Charles De Ketelaere struck twice in the first half, scoring in the 9th and 33rd minutes to put Belgium firmly in control. Malik Tillman pulled one back for the USA in the 31st minute, but that was as close as the Americans would get. Hans Vanaken made it 3-1 in the 57th minute, and Romelu Lukaku added a fourth deep into stoppage time (90+3) to seal the emphatic win. The USA lined up with Freese in goal; Freeman, Richards, Ream, and Robinson in defense; McKennie, Adams, and Tillman in midfield; Dest, Balogun, and Pulisic up front. Substitutes included Pepi, Reyna, Wright, Arfsten, and Berhalter. Belgium started Courtois; Castagne, Mechele, Ngoy, De Cuyper; Onana, Raskin; Lukebakio, Tielemans, Trossard; and De Ketelaere. Vanaken, Doku, Lukaku, Witsel, and Saelemaekers came off the bench. McKennie and Tillman were booked for the USA. Belgium will now face the winner of Spain vs. Paraguay in the quarterfinals.
