Federico Chiesa: 'I Love Liverpool and I'm Doing Everything to Get My Chance'

Liverpool forward Federico Chiesa is determined to secure a regular spot under the club's new manager after a frustrating spell. Chiesa joined the Merseyside outfit from Juventus in August 2024 for £12.5 million ($16.6 million), but spent most of his time on the periphery. Under former boss Arne Slot, he started only two Premier League games across two seasons. On Saturday, during a preseason friendly in Nashville, Liverpool beat Sunderland 4-2, with Chiesa getting on the scoresheet. It was an early glimpse of what new head coach Andoni Iraola wants from his team. "We've been training with the new coach for two weeks and we already see what he wants. He demands high intensity and one-on-one play all over the pitch. We tried to show that today. Of course it's tough, it's only preseason," Chiesa said after the match. The Italian dismissed any speculation about his future, emphasizing his commitment to the club. "Right now I'm happy here at Liverpool. I love the club, I love the fans. I'm doing everything to get my chance. The only thing on my mind is Liverpool," he added. Liverpool had a turbulent last season, failing to defend the title and scraping a fifth-place finish that was enough for Champions League qualification. The board decided to part ways with Slot and brought in Iraola to restore a dynamic, attacking style. Chiesa reflected on his lack of playing time with a philosophical tone. "Last year I felt ready for a bigger role, but the coach made his decisions. That's football. This year is a new chapter. So far my talks with Iraola have only been about tactics and pressing. I'm just trying to give my best for the new manager." He also stressed that the club's recent standards are not acceptable. "Liverpool deserves more. Two years ago we were Premier League champions, last year we almost got knocked out of the Champions League and fought for fifth place. We were lucky that was enough.
