Real Madrid turn back to Bastoni after Schlotterbeck deal falls through

Real Madrid are once again targeting Inter Milan center-back Alessandro Bastoni as they look to reinforce their defensive line this summer. According to AS, Los Blancos have already secured Ibrahima Konaté on a free transfer and previously completed deals for Marc Cucurella and Denzel Dumfries. Despite those additions, the club's hierarchy wants one more central defender. Nico Schlotterbeck was initially seen as the primary option, but after negotiations with the German defender stalled, Madrid have revived their interest in Bastoni. The Italian was also on the club's radar at the start of the summer window, though talks faded at the time. Now, per the report, the 27-year-old is back among Real's top targets. The club believes his experience and versatility would significantly strengthen the backline. Bastoni's current contract with Inter runs until June 2028. Last season he made 40 appearances across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing six assists.
