Jack Grealish Left Out of Manchester City's Asia Tour Due to Injury
0
Manchester City midfielder Jack Grealish has been omitted from the squad for the club's preseason tour of Asia as he continues to recover from a foot injury. The 30-year-old Englishman hasn't played since January, when he underwent surgery while on loan at Everton.
Grealish returned to training with City last week, but he wasn't included in the traveling party that departed for Hong Kong on Tuesday. New City boss Enzo Maresca, during his first press conference on Friday, left the door open for Grealish to eventually play for the club again.
Still, the prospect of a first-team return looks increasingly uncertain. For now, the midfielder remains in Manchester to focus on getting back to full fitness. According to ESPN sources, City's hierarchy hasn't made a final call on where Grealish will play next season. His current contract at the Etihad Stadium runs through the summer of 2027.
Everton is keen on another loan deal, while inquiries have also come from other Premier League clubs, MLS sides, and teams in Saudi Arabia.
Also missing the Asia trip is Kalvin Phillips. The midfielder is closing in on another loan move - this time to Championship side Sheffield United.
Maresca, meanwhile, was able to include several players who featured at the World Cup: Tijjani Reijnders, Mateo Kovacic, Rayan Aït-Nouri, Josko Gvardiol, Antoine Semenyo, and Abdukodir Khusanov. Claudio Echeverri, who spent last season on loan at Bayer Leverkusen and Girona, also joins the group. And Savinho made the trip despite fresh speculation that Tottenham is preparing another bid for the Brazilian winger.
