Yaremchuk left out of Olympiacos squad for Champions League qualifiers

0
Olympiacos have announced their squad for the first European matches of the new season, and Roman Yaremchuk is not in it. The Ukraine forward has been left out of the team's Champions League third qualifying round tie against Dutch club Nijmegen, with the first leg on August 4 and the return leg on August 11. The winner of the tie moves into the final qualifying round. Yaremchuk returned to Piraeus after a loan spell but did not make the cut for Europe. Olympiacos registered five forwards for the qualifiers, and the Ukrainian was not among them. The forward had a difficult season last time out. He started the campaign at Olympiacos, but made just one appearance in the Champions League main round, coming off the bench in the 6-1 loss to Barcelona. In February he joined Lyon on loan, and the French club later decided against buying his contract. There was some reason for optimism during preseason, though. Yaremchuk featured in six friendlies for Olympiacos, started two of them, and scored against Polish side Raków in a 2-1 win. In the end, that was not enough to convince the coaching staff. Earlier reports suggested Yaremchuk could leave Olympiacos this summer.
