Coventry City complete club-record transfer for Carl Rushworth

Coventry City have turned Carl Rushworth's loan into a permanent deal. The club confirmed the 25-year-old goalkeeper has signed a long-term contract after his standout season at CBS Arena, where he was on loan from Brighton. According to insider reports, the transfer cost Coventry a club-record £22 million. Neither side has officially revealed the financial terms or the exact length of the deal, with Coventry merely describing it as long-term. Rushworth was one of the main reasons behind Coventry's promotion push. He played in every league match - all 46 of them - without being substituted and kept 17 clean sheets as Coventry won the Championship and ended a 25-year wait for Premier League football. "I'm really happy and so full of emotions. There is excitement, but I can finally take a deep breath and relax because everything is done. I'm back with the lads and at a club where I enjoyed being," Rushworth said. The goalkeeper spent seven years under contract at Brighton after joining from his hometown club Halifax Town in 2019, but he never made a first-team appearance for the Seagulls.
