Atletico agree terms with Romero, but Tottenham still hold the key

2026 World Cup finalist Cristian Romero has decided his next move: the Argentine center-back wants to leave Tottenham this summer. Atletico Madrid have made the most progress in the race for the 28-year-old. Spurs are asking for €40-45m, and the Madrid side are currently trying to work out a deal at that price. Romero's side is already on board. His representatives have agreed personal terms with Atletico on a contract until 2030 worth €6m per season. Now the only remaining step is for the clubs to reach an agreement. The defender ended last season with 32 appearances, six goals and four assists.
