In the match of the 4th round of the Spanish La Liga, Real Betis narrowly beat Real Madrid at home — 1:0. For Jose Mourinho's team, this defeat was the first after a perfect start to the season. Madrid seized the initiative from the first minutes and created several excellent opportunities to take the goal. In the 11th minute, Alvaro Valles saved Betis from Dean Huysen's shot, and soon after Vinicius Junior hit the post after a beautiful combination involving Kylian Mbappe and Arda Guler. Real continued to press, but the hosts kept their defense. Vallées showed excellent reaction on several occasions, notably handling shots from Mbappe and Jude Bellingham. At the end of the first half, Huysen also hit the crossbar, but the score remained 0:0. After the break, the nature of the game changed. Real Betis began to act bolder, while Madrid found it increasingly difficult to create danger in front of other people's goals. Mourinho attempted to freshen up the game with a triple substitution, bringing on Bernardo Silva, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Ian Diomande. However, it was the hosts who scored first and only. In the 81st minute, after a corner kick, Nelson Deossa headed in, Thibaut Courtois deflected the ball in front of him, and Troy Perrott was the first to finish and powerfully sent the ball into the net — 1:0. Real Madrid rushed to fight back and in stoppage time got a great opportunity to avoid defeat. In the 90th + 3rd minute, Nathan fouled Vinicius in his own penalty area, after which the referee awarded a penalty. Mbappe approached the mark, but the Real forward could not beat Vallés. The goalkeeper of Betis guessed the direction of the shot and made a brilliant save, finally preserving the advantage of his team. Madrid could still save themselves in the last minutes: in the 88th minute, Carlos Espy's goal was canceled due to offside, and already after the penalty, Valles made another important save after Espy's shot. In the end, Real Betis held on and won one of the loudest victories at the start of the season. Real Madrid, in turn, lost the first points in the championship and suffered the first failure under the leadership of Mourinho.
