Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang continues to impress Spanish football after joining La Liga newcomers Deportivo A Coruña in the summer from French side Marseille. On Saturday, the experienced forward distinguished himself in the fourth match of the championship in a row, scoring the winning goal in the away game against Villarreal (3:2).
This ball allowed the Gabonese to rewrite the statistics of the tournament. Aged 37 years and 79 days, Aubameyang became the oldest player since 2000 to score in each of his first four La Liga games for one club. He is also the first player to score in four starts in the Spanish top flight since Real Madrid's Jude Bellingham in the 2023/24 season.
In the winning match, the attacker reminded of his main trump cards — speed and athleticism. Intercepting the ball in the center of the field after a mistake by the opponent's defense, Aubameyang made a rapid dash to the penalty area, confidently realized the exit face to face and celebrated taking the goal with a signature forward somersault.
The attacking leader's successful form translates directly into Deportivo's results. The team, which took second place in Segunda last year and won a direct ticket to the elite, still does not know the bitterness of defeats in the new season, having two wins and two draws.
After the final whistle, the head coach of Deportivo, Antonio Hidalgo, did not hold back his emotions, evaluating the level of play of his attacker:
"What Aubameyang does is absolute madness. He never misses training and works harder than anyone else. He has a special talent. We have become a little closer to maintaining our registration in the elite. We recently moved up in class, and this season will be very long," the manager said.
