Leeds winger Noah Okafor announced on his social networks that he has been suspended from the Swiss national team. "After careful consideration, I have decided to end my career with the Swiss national team until further notice. This decision is extremely difficult for me, but I want and have to make it now. For me, there was never anything better than playing for Switzerland. Every time I put this shirt on, I tried to give my all on the field. I would be happy to continue playing for Switzerland and give everything for our country. But under the current circumstances, I just can't do it anymore. I want to clarify one thing: this decision has nothing to do with game time. A year after the European Championship, Murat Yakin, together with members of the coaching staff, came to England to meet with me for a clarifying conversation. It was a very respectful and productive conversation. We were able to look ahead and clear up any misunderstandings. I was grateful to Yakin for that. That is why I went to the World Cup with a good mood, full of motivation and a firm intention to give myself to the team and the country. What I experienced there was even more disappointing for me. Not because I didn't play much, but because of the way I was treated. For me, it was the most difficult time in my career so far. Things happened that deeply affected me. Trust was broken. Promises were not kept. And when I was allowed to play against Algeria, even minor mistakes made far from our goal caused a reaction that hurt me deeply. In the following weeks, I thought a lot and decided that I no longer wanted to play for the national team under the current coach. Murat Yakin does a great job and achieved historic results with Switzerland. His success speaks for itself. And, of course, I don't want any special treatment from him. Only mutual respect and trust, but I do not see such a basis for the coming years. I wish the team all the best from the bottom of my heart. I am happy for every success that the team achieves and I believe that we have achieved something great at the World Cup. Many of my teammates are friends and I will continue to root for them and support them. I am grateful to Switzerland for everything I have experienced. Playing for this country was and always will be something special. Believe me, every time I was on the field, I gave my heart to this jersey," Okafor wrote. Okafor has 26 matches for the national team, in which he scored two goals and provided two assists. At the last WC-2026, Noah played only one match on the field, in which he played 19 minutes.
