Cagliari secured an important away win against Atalanta in their Serie A Round 4 match as Fabio Pisacane's side scored twice and held on despite heavy pressure from the hosts in the second half.
Cagliari opened the scoring in the 19th minute. Michel Adopo came down the right and sent a cross into the penalty area, where Paul Mendy hit the crossbar with a powerful shot from close range that sent the ball into the net.
Atalanta fought back even before the break. In the 41st minute, Charles De Ketelare led Gianluca Scamakka to a shot, who scored from an acute angle. After a ricochet from Adam Obert, the ball ended up in the goal — 1:1.
In the 61st minute, Cagliari took the lead again. Sead Kolasinac played with his hand in his own penalty area, after which the referee awarded a penalty. Daniel Maldini confidently executed the penalty kick, sending the goalkeeper in one direction and the ball in the other.
Atalanta then went forward with great strength and created several dangerous chances. The hosts even scored a second time, but Mendy's goal in the 51st minute was disallowed for offside. Atalanta could not recover.
