It's official: Eriksen and Wolfsburg have terminated their contract by mutual consent

Wolfsburg, currently playing in the second division, have officially announced the termination of the contract with 34-year-old Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen. The deal, which ran until 2027, was terminated by mutual consent on Wednesday, September 23. The reason for this decision was the consequences of the incident that occurred in early June 2026. Then, shortly after Wolves were relegated to Bundesliga 2, Eriksen collapsed on the pitch during a friendly between Denmark and Ukraine. Since that time, the experienced playmaker has not appeared on the field in any match, and the club, expressing full support for the player, did not make any predictions about his possible return. "It was clear to us that the decision regarding his future depends solely on Christian. We wanted to give him full freedom of action in this difficult situation, so we granted his request to terminate the contract," Wolfsburg sports director Dieter Hecking commented on the situation. The football player himself emphasized that now his priority is close people: "Now it is important for me to be close to my family in Denmark. I am glad that we were able to find a solution together. My time at Wolfsburg was marked by many ups and downs. I know that the club is now in good hands to return to the Bundesliga, and I am convinced that Wolfsburg has a successful future ahead of it," the player emphasized. Christian Eriksen joined Wolfsburg in September 2025. In the 2025/26 season, he played 34 matches for the team (31 of them in the Bundesliga), scoring 3 goals and 10 assists. Despite his efforts and participation in transitional matches, the team was unable to retain registration in the elite division, which was the first relegation in the Dane's career. Currently, the Transfermarkt portal estimates the player's value at 2.5 million euros. It is not yet known whether Eriksen plans to continue his professional career in another club.
