Arsenal target 'ideal fit' alternative to Alvarez after €70m star wows scouts Make us your Google favourite Arsenal have identified a new alternative to Julian Alvarez in the hopes of strengthening Mikel Arteta’s attack after missing out on the Atletico Madrid forward during the summer. Alvarez was among Arsenal’s top targets for the summer but, despite pushing to leave Atletico, the 26-year-old refused to entertain talks with the Gunners as he was only looking to join Barcelona. Although Atletico are still willing to sell Alvarez to Arsenal, the lack of interest from the Argentine has led to Arteta’s side exploring other options including Dortmund ’s Maximilian Beier, according to TEAMtalk. Arsenal’s scouts are said to have been impressed by Beier over the past 12 months and the 23-year-old is described as being ‘firmly on their radar’, particularly with the club regularly watching Dortmund to monitor the progress of loanee Ethan Nwaneri. Beier’s ability to play both as a nine, as a 10 or out wide is has made Arsenal scouts believe the German international is an ‘ideal fit’ for the Premier League, with comparisons being drawn to current Gunner Kai Havertz . However, the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham are also understood to be monitoring Beier after enquiring about his availability during the summer, while Dortmund still see the player as important and would be reluctant to sanction his departure. Maximilian Beier: Arsenal take aim as Arteta targets world class forward Beier has slowly grown into his role at Dortmund since his €28.5 million move from Hoffenheim in 2024, having grabbed nine goals and six assists in 24 Bundesliga starts last season. With Karim Adeyemi leaving Dortmund this summer, Beier has been handed a bigger role by Niko Kovac this season, starting three of his side’s four league matches so far, netting once and assisting twice. Beier was also in demand last summer but, despite multiple bids from Brentford that were thought to be worth around €70m, the forward ended up staying at Dortmund and his value could be even higher in the current market. However, Beier is one of a number of players that Arsenal are monitoring and there is no guarantee that they will formalise their interest, with Arteta hoping to sign a high pedigree, world class addition next year to upgrade on his current options in attack. Having seen interest in the likes of Alvarez, Vinicius Junior and Bradley Barcola fail to succeed, Arsenal are now thought to be looking at players such as Eli Junior Kroupi and Kevin Schade to strengthen in 2027 , with Beier also joining the list.
