Reiss Nelson has passed a medical ahead of joining Dutch giants Feyenoord following his exit from Arsenal , according to insider .
The 26-year-old is understood to have agreed terms on Tuesday as he prepares to rejoin Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side on a free transfer.
Nelson first joined Feyenoord on a season-long loan from Arsenal in August 2021, recording four goals and seven assists in 32 games for the club.
The news comes after Nelson and Premier League champions Arsenal agreed to terminate his contract by mutual consent at the end of August.
Nelson joined Arsenal’s academy setup as an eight-year-old and went on to make 90 appearances for the senior side, registering eight goals and nine assists.
He made his competitive debut for the Gunners in the penalty shootout victory over Chelsea in the 2017 Community Shield at Wembley Stadium.
Nelson then made his Premier League debut for Arsenal in the 4-1 win over Crystal Palace at the Emirates Stadium in January 2020.
The winger helped Arsenal win the FA Cup in 2019-20 - a season which saw him make 22 appearances in all competitions, scoring three goals.
Nelson also had loan spells with Bundesliga outfit Hoffenheim and Premier League sides Fulham and Brentford while on the books at Arsenal.
In a statement confirming Nelson had become a free agent in August, Arsenal said: “Everyone at the club thanks Reiss for his contribution to Arsenal. We wish him and his family well for the future.”
Nelson will play Champions League football with Feyenoord
Nelson will hope to earn plenty of first-team minutes at Feyenoord, who have made an unbeaten start to the new Eredivisie season.
Van Bronckhorst’s charges are currently third in the standings after registering two wins and two draws in their opening four league fixtures.
Nelson and Feyenoord will experience Champions League football this season after the club finished second in the Eredivisie last season.
Transfer deadline day is currently taking place in the Netherlands today (Wednesday, 2 September).
