Arsenal has completed the £75m signing of Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United, with the Brazil midfielder committing to a four-year contract that includes an option for a further 12 months. The 28-year-old former Newcastle captain made it clear earlier this summer that he wanted to join the Premier League champions. He left Newcastle's training camp in La Manga, Spain, this week after a breakthrough in talks, and described the move as one of the toughest decisions of his life. "This move is very tough because Newcastle means so much to me," Guimaraes said. "But I wanted to experience something new in my life. I feel ready for a new challenge for myself and my family." Guimaraes revealed that he had received messages from several of his new Arsenal team-mates, including compatriot Gabriel and midfielder Declan Rice. Rice, a former midfield rival, told him: "Come here and please no more fights, now we're friends." "I'm at the point of my life, I think I need a challenge like this," Guimaraes added. "I want to win trophies, I want to make history and I think I'm in the right place to do it." Newcastle wished Guimaraes and his family well after his departure. He joined the club in January 2022 during a relegation battle and played a crucial role in their revival under Eddie Howe. He became the first captain in seven decades to lift a major domestic trophy for Newcastle when they beat Liverpool in the 2025 EFL Cup final, and he was part of the side that qualified for the Champions League in 2023 and 2025 before a 12th-place Premier League finish last season.
