Martin O'Neill makes last-minute Celtic transfer request Make us your Google favourite Celtic boss Martin O’Neill has admitted that he wants the club to pursue additional reinforcements on Transfer Deadline Day in Scotland. The Glasgow giants had until 11pm on Wednesday to register any new signings for the league phase of the Europa League, but they are still able to add players to their Scottish Premiership squad until the Scottish window shuts at 5pm on Thursday. Celtic added Joel van den Berg, Jordan Lotomba, Oliver Sorensen, Shumaira Mheuka, Sam Johnstone and Landon Emenalo to their squad on Wednesday, before the deadline to register them for the Europa League, and while any additional new recruits wouldn’t be able to play in the competition until after Christmas, O’Neill is still keen for the club to keep an eye on the market. “Honestly I am pleased,” O’Neill told reporters when asked about Celtic’s transfer business after his side’s 3-0 win over Aberdeen on Wednesday. “The transfer window is there and I'm pleased that we have done what we have because there's quite a few who have left the football club. Reo[Hatate]’s gone and Johnny Kenny has gone, I wish them all the best, and so we needed people in. Even if they miss the European deadline, if there is a possibility of getting someone else in, I would definitely want to do that if we can.” Celtic had looked likely to sign Torino midfielder Gvidas Gineitis, but a deal to sign the Lithuania international now looks increasingly unlikely unless a late u-turn takes place. Celtic finalised the club-record signing of Bodo/Glimt striker Kasper Hogh for €12.9m in late July, while they have also added Haissem Hassan, Mika Baur and Camilo Duran, in addition to the aforementioned Van den Berg, Lotomba, Sorensen, Mheuka, Johnstone and Emenalo. In regards to departures, they have sold Arne Engels, Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate, Luis Palma, Johnny Kenny, Maik Nawrocki, Hayato Inamura and Josh Clarke, and Kelechi Iheanacho and Stepehen Welsh both exited on free transfers. Meanwhile, Paulo Bernardo, Michel-Ange Balikwisha, Shin Yamada and Adam Montgomery have all left on loan and Kasper Schmeichel has retired.
