Jorgensen agrees to Chelsea exit as Strasbourg loan moves to brink

Filip Jorgensen has given the green light to a loan move to Strasbourg, with the Chelsea goalkeeper expected to join the French club in the coming days. Sources close to the situation describe the deal as '99% certain'. The Denmark international is poised to become the latest player to switch between the two BlueCo clubs, just hours after academy prospect Genesis Antwi completed the same journey to Strasbourg. Jorgensen has wanted to leave Chelsea since January, when he was seeking regular playing time to push for Denmark's No.1 jersey ahead of possible World Cup qualification. Denmark ultimately did not qualify for the tournament, and Chelsea were not willing to sanction a mid-season exit. Now, though, the situation has become clear. Signed from Villarreal for €24.5 million in 2024, the 24-year-old has never managed to displace Robert Sanchez. With Mike Penders back at Chelsea following the end of his own Strasbourg loan, Jorgensen has slid further down the pecking order. A permanent sale was initially expected, but Jorgensen is now prepared to move on loan. He left Chelsea's pre-season tour of Australia and Asia last week to sort out his future. He is set to become Strasbourg's new No.1 now that Penders has returned to Stamford Bridge. Jorgensen will be the second Chelsea player loaned to Strasbourg this summer after Antwi, leaving room for only one more temporary arrival at the Ligue 1 club. That spot could be used on Mykhailo Mudryk. Mudryk is eligible to play again after winning his legal battle over a doping suspension, but he has not featured in 18 months. Strasbourg are among the clubs keen on the winger, though he also has admirers in the Premier League, including newly promoted Coventry under Chelsea legend Frank Lampard. A loan within England would not use one of Chelsea's international loan slots. Once the Jorgensen move is completed, he will become the 15th player to transfer between Chelsea and Strasbourg.
