Chelsea put on 'red alert' as troubled PSG teen Ibrahim Mbaye becomes available
2
Chelsea's long-standing pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain winger Ibrahim Mbaye has taken a dramatic turn, with a prominent investigative journalist warning the Premier League club of serious issues behind the scenes.
The 18-year-old Senegal international, once deemed untouchable by PSG, is now reportedly available for a fee in excess of €50 million. After making just 11 appearances in 2025, Mbaye has seen his relationship with the club fracture, opening the door for a summer exit.
According to journalist Romain Molina, the teenager's parents have become a disruptive force in his career. Molina claims Mbaye's father has repeatedly clashed with PSG officials and manager Luis Enrique, demanding more playing time and comparing his son to Lamine Yamal and Ousmane Dembélé. "My son is Lamine Yamal. He's the best; he's better than Ousmane Dembele. Why isn't he playing?" Molina quotes the father as saying.
PSG's football advisor Luis Campos is said to believe the father is behind several media leaks, while Molina also points to poor physical conditioning and an unhealthy diet as reasons for Mbaye's limited minutes. The youngster has switched representatives three times in the past year, with superagent Jorge Mendes now supposedly handling his affairs - though Molina claims the two have never spoken.
Mendes is also alleged to have blocked Mbaye's move to Aston Villa in January, preferring instead to send Chelsea's Alejandro Garnacho to the Midlands club. Molina posted a photograph of Mbaye's parents posing with an Aston Villa kit and another showing them receiving a Chelsea gift bag, lending weight to reports from earlier this year.
For Chelsea, who have long admired the right-winger, the warning is clear: any deal must navigate a complex family dynamic, a player whose fitness has been questioned, and the influence of one of football's most powerful agents.
