Another error, albeit a far smaller one, was selling Jimmy-Jay Morgan to West Bromwich Albion for a measly fee of just €1.5m. In fact, it looked like good business on face value. However, Morgan joined Chelsea from Southampton’s academy for €3.4m in 2023 and three years later, the Blues bizarrely sold him for roughly €2m less than that figure. Across his three seasons as a Chelsea player, Morgan scored a more than respectable tally of 21 goals in 46 games for the club’s U21 side and he enjoyed a hugely productive loan spell at League One side Peterborough last term - netting 14 times in 39 matches across all competitions. The fact that a sale was agreed for just €1.5m was therefore surprising and it looks even more of an error considering his flying start to life at West Brom. Morgan has four goals and two assists in just six games for James Morrison’s side, with the 20-year-old a key reason why West Brom are currently sixth in the Championship table.
