Cleared at last, Mudryk has one realistic route back - Strasbourg

Mykhailo Mudryk is finally clear to return to football. The Court of Arbitration for Sport has overturned the four-year ban imposed by FIFA, ending a nightmare that kept the Chelsea winger away from competitive action for almost two years. During that exile, Mudryk trained alone, spending time at Uxbridge FC and hiring goalkeepers to stay sharp in front of goal. The FA has now confirmed the case is closed and the Ukrainian is eligible with immediate effect. "I am grateful that this process has reached a conclusion, that I have been cleared to return to football and that I can now look ahead to my future," Mudryk wrote on Instagram. "This has been the most difficult period of my career. As I have always maintained from the outset of this case, I have never knowingly or intentionally taken any banned substance. My commitment to competing fairly and representing my club and country with professionalism and integrity has always been important to me. My focus now is on returning to football, working hard every day, and making a positive contribution on the pitch." His agent, Vadin Shablii, added: "I've seen first-hand the way he handled this period with resilience, professionalism and character. That says far more about him than anything else. Football welcomes back a talented player who still has so much to offer." At 25, Mudryk still has time, but the road back is not straightforward. Premier League football does not wait for anyone, and expecting him to walk straight into Chelsea's starting lineup would be unrealistic. The Blues have just completed a record transfer for Morgan Rogers, who is expected to occupy the left-wing role that Mudryk prefers. That makes a loan the logical next step. Chelsea's multi-club structure is built for exactly this kind of situation, and Strasbourg looks like the ideal destination for the 2026/27 season. According to SciSports, Mudryk would arrive at the Ligue 1 club as the strongest player in the squad, rated ahead of Julio Enciso, Sebastian Nanasi, Guela Doue and Diego Moreira. The caveat is obvious: 20 months without real matches will take time to shake off. Strasbourg have their own left-sided threat in Diego Moreira, but the teenager has been strongly linked with a €40 million move to Roma. Sending Mudryk to France could unlock that transfer, giving BlueCo a significant fee and giving the winger the platform he desperately needs. It would be a clean solution for everyone involved. Chelsea keep control of Mudryk's development, Strasbourg get the chance to complete a record sale, and Mudryk finally gets the regular football required to rebuild his career.
