Rangers turn up heat for Driouech with €7m bid as Celta Vigo circle

0
Rangers have submitted a £6m (€7m) bid for PSV winger Couhaib Driouech, with the 24-year-old Morocco U23 international viewed as the answer to the problems that have troubled Derek McInnes' squad early this season. The Ibrox side have already had one offer rejected, yet they remain determined to get the deal done. Celta Vigo are also in the race, so Rangers cannot take their time. Dutch football analyst Dylan ter Laak sees a player with serious pace and dribbling ability, even if Driouech is not the finished product. The former Excelsior man has mostly been a substitute at PSV because the club has better attacking options, but he has shown in the Champions League that he can perform in big matches. Ter Laak also warns that Driouech can overdo his dribbling and is not a natural finisher, pointing to a glaring miss against Ajax last season. The numbers still back the move. Driouech produced 10 direct goal contributions in the Eredivisie last season, which works out to one every 96.4 minutes. In the Champions League, he scored three goals, including two away at Liverpool, and provided assists against Napoli and Atletico Madrid. His current estimated transfer value sits at around €4.8m, which suggests Rangers are overpaying. But his value peaked at €6.7m as recently as April, which gives the bid some context. SciSports data gives Rangers a clear edge, too. Driouech is projected to be an important first-team player at Ibrox with the potential to become the club's standout star. At Celta Vigo, the same projection sees him as no more than a squad option. For a 24-year-old entering his best years, that choice could define his career, and Rangers can offer the stage he craves.
