Rangers complete eighth summer signing with Olwethu Makhanya

Olwethu Makhanya has completed his move to Rangers, becoming the Scottish club's eighth signing of the summer after arriving from Philadelphia Union for an undisclosed fee.
The 22-year-old center back, who made 53 appearances for the Major League Soccer side after breaking into the first team last year, has signed a four-year deal at Ibrox with the option of a further year.
Makhanya said joining a club with so much history is a huge honor and a dream come true, adding that playing in Europe had been his ambition since childhood. The defender came through at Stellenbosch in his homeland and was named in South Africa's squad for the 2026 World Cup, but he did not feature at this summer's tournament.
Rangers manager Derek McInnes believes Makhanya has the attributes to succeed in Scottish football. Speaking ahead of Friday's Scottish Premiership opener against Dundee United, which kicks off at 20:00 BST at Tannadice Park, McInnes pointed to the defender's athleticism and potential, saying the club believes he can cope with the move from MLS to a different country and style of play.
