Leeds United reach £34.1m agreement with Sassuolo for defender Tarik Muharemovic

Leeds United have struck a £34.1 million deal with Serie A side Sassuolo for centre-back Tarik Muharemovic, though the transfer is not yet over the line.
The 23-year-old Bosnia-Herzegovina international still needs to finalize personal terms and pass a medical, and the Yorkshire club face competition from other Premier League outfits who have also tracked the defender.
If Muharemovic opts for Elland Road, he would become Daniel Farke’s second summer signing following Harry Wilson’s free transfer from Fulham. His arrival would also fill the void left by Pascal Struijk, who moved to Brighton for £20 million in June.
Muharemovic featured three times for Bosnia-Herzegovina at the World Cup, including a last-32 loss to co-hosts the United States. In that match, he was fouled by Folarin Balogun, who was sent off – though the US forward’s suspension was later overturned following intervention from US President Donald Trump and the White House.
Born in Ljubljana, the defender started his senior career in Austria with Wolfsberger in 2021 before moving to Juventus, where he never made a first-team appearance. A successful loan spell at Sassuolo led to a permanent transfer in 2025, and Juventus are reportedly entitled to 50% of the fee due to a sell-on clause.
