Man City make formal Pedro Neto approach as Tottenham chase wingers and Chelsea close on Chavarria
0
Manchester City have made a formal approach to Pedro Neto's representatives, with insider reporting that the Chelsea winger has emerged as a genuine option for City. They are looking at wingers because of the real possibility that Savinho leaves the club, and Neto is rated very highly. Enzo Maresca's knowledge of the Portuguese from their time together at Chelsea is considered a big factor.
Chelsea, though, do not have Neto on their list of players for sale, and he remains part of Xabi Alonso's plans. An important offer could still change the picture - Romano says the player might be open to the move and everything depends on financial negotiations. Tottenham are monitoring the same part of the market. Savinho is their first, second and third priority, and Romano believes he has a strong chance of ending up at Spurs before the window closes. If that does not happen, Neto becomes a backup option.
Spurs are also pushing on other fronts, with Cody Gakpo a top target. They have made contact with the player's camp to understand the cost of the deal, but Liverpool want to keep Gakpo and consider him very important. Chelsea, meanwhile, are preparing a busy August. Romano says the club have already signed Welbeck, Henderson and others, but now the focus is on exits. Trevoh Chalobah is expected to leave for €30m plus €6m in add-ons and a sell-on clause, while Benoit Badiashile and Tosin Adarabioyo are also expected to move on.
The next name to watch is Pep Chavarria, with the deal from Rayo Vallecano worth around €19m plus add-ons. Terms are already agreed with the player, and Romano expects the 'here we go' to be imminent. On Nicolas Jackson, Tottenham are not close despite recent reports. The striker is only one of several names discussed internally, with Omar Marmoush among them. Aston Villa, who already signed Alejandro Garnacho on loan from Chelsea, hold a strong interest in Jackson. Any move would have to be permanent because Villa cannot take another Chelsea player on loan in this window.
