Man Utd fear Rashford 'humiliation' as loan emerges as only route out

0
Manchester United are bracing for a potential PR nightmare if Marcus Rashford rediscovers his best form away from Old Trafford, with the club increasingly resigned to keeping the forward for the upcoming season. The 28-year-old returns to Carrington for pre-season after a turbulent 18-month spell that saw him frozen out at United, spend half a season on loan at Aston Villa, and then the entire 2025/26 campaign with Barcelona. Despite the Catalan club holding a €30 million option to make the move permanent, they passed on the England international, leaving him to report back to Michael Carrick’s squad. With Rashford now back in Manchester, the likelihood is that he will remain a Red Devil for the duration of the campaign. The iPaper reports that United have fielded considerable interest, most notably from Tottenham, who were keen on a permanent deal, as well as Arsenal and Chelsea monitoring the situation. However, the club deliberately avoided a deal with Spurs, driven by the fear of a “potential PR disaster” and the “humiliation” of watching Rashford thrive at a Premier League rival. Rashford himself is content to stay. He remains a devoted supporter of the club, maintains strong relationships within the dressing room, and has been selective about his next move. He turned down opportunities to join Galatasaray and Fenerbahce, preferring a switch to a top European side, but no club has been willing to meet United’s £26m (€30m) asking price or match his reported £325,000-a-week wages. A permanent transfer appears all but off the table, leaving a loan as the “only” viable route for a departure before the deadline. United are keen to remove his substantial salary from the wage bill and believe there will be loan interest before the window shuts, but whether that will be enough to convince Rashford to leave his boyhood club for a second time remains to be seen.
